SW7 clearance work commences at Alton Towers

Clearance work for Alton Towers 2013 rollercoaster – dubbed Secret Weapon Seven (SW7) – has begun with the demolition of the former Black Hole tent getting underway.

Due to open in March next year, the ride will be the latest offering from German manufacturers Gerstlauer.

It is understood to be the next generation of the Euro-Fighter model and will feature at least eight inversions as well as a secret “world’s first” element.

Black construction fences have appeared in the X Sector area of the park, and have been adorned with banners depicting twisting stainless steel or chrome-style track.

A website with a similar feel has also been launched at AltonTowers.com/SW7, allowing visitors to register for e-mail updates on the £20 million project.

The ride’s final name is not expected to be revealed for many months, allowing the park to concentrate on viral marketing heavily utilising social networking.
