Alton Towers will cease the operation of its two flat rides Submission and Enterprise for the 2012 season.
The park has cited the building of its 2013 rollercoaster as the reason for the action, with a high fence considered likely to be erected to block views of the construction site.
The Huss-manufactured Enterprise has been at Alton Towers since 1984 and the Chance-made Submission was installed in 2001, but both suffer from diminished popularity.
It is understood that both rides will re-open in 2013 as a permanent closure has not been indicated by the park.
Oblivion will be the only operational ride in the X Sector area of the Staffordshire park for the forthcoming season.
Meanwhile, it has emerged that the 2012 ‘on the day’ entry price to Alton Towers will increase by £1.20 to £42 when the park re-opens on 24 March.
