2014 theme park season ends

Nemesis InfernoThe 2014 season has ended for the major British theme parks, with most now closed until February or March of next year.

Alton Towers ended its season with its traditional three-day fireworks events which feature 9pm closing times.

2014 marks the first season which Merlin Entertainments has been a publicly-owned company after its flotation on the London Stock Exchange last November.

Its four UK theme parks are Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Legoland Windsor and Chessington World of Adventures.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach opened until midnight on Saturday, allowing guests the rare opportunity of night-time riding.

In August, Fantasy Island called in administrators to help its parent company manage debts of around £50 million, with their work continuing.

Announcements regarding new developments at theme parks are expected in the coming weeks.
