It has emerged that a child has sustained whiplash after he was allegedly fastened into a fairground ride with his head incorrectly positioned.
15-year-old Jack Britton, who suffers from mild autism, was photographed on the ride by his mother.
Showman Peter Burnett had been operating rides at Gosport in Hampshire for naval base HMS Sultan’s Summer Show.
The exact type of travelling ride that was involved has not been identified.
News of the incident was covered in the local newspaper last month, and the incident is understood to have occurred during the weekend of 14/15 June.
‘Head to the side’
The boy’s mother, Tina Betts told the Portsmouth News: “I didn’t realise at first, but the ride started up and his head was to the side of it. He wasn’t sat in it properly. I asked the guy to stop the ride and he said he was OK.
“He was going round at such a speed. It was so scary. [the ride operator] wouldn’t stop the ride until I took my phone out and started taking photos.
“He stopped it before it went upside down because I think Jack would have fallen out.”
The boy’s injury was described as whiplash by the Portsmouth News.
Ride owner Burnett was quoted as saying: “I have let all the appropriate people know and they are sorting out the problem.”
The Royal Navy said it was aware of the incident, but did not pass comment.
