Chessington World of Adventures recorded a visitor increase of 15% during the 2013 season, recent figures show.
The Surrey theme park’s attendance for the year was 200,000 up on 2012, with 1.5 million guests coming through its gates.
The Zufari: Ride Into Africa vehicle ride is largely the reason behind the increase, coming on the back of a successful TV advertising campaign.
Merlin Entertainments’ other UK theme parks also rose on 2012 visitor numbers, with Thorpe Park registering a 200,000 (11%) increase to 2 million guests.
Alton Towers welcomed 100,000 (4%) more guests with 2.5 million admissions, while Legoland Windsor’s 2.05 million visitors represented a 50,000 (2%) rise on last year.
The figures form part of the 2013 Theme Index report, which is commissioned annually by the Themed Entertainments Association.
The report shows that Merlin’s total global admissions rose by more than 10%, with just short of 60 million people visiting its attractions worldwide.
