London Dungeon relocation given green light

The London Dungeon is set to be relocated adjacent to the London Eye, following planning permission being granted.

The proposals were approved by Lambeth Council earlier this week, with construction at the new location, in the County Hall building opposite the Houses of Parliament, due to commence in June.

As previously reported, its operators, Merlin Entertainments, applied to relocate the attraction from its currently site on Tooley Street back in February this year.

The new venue is expected to open in January 2013, with a larger indoor queuing area than at the current site.

Merlin’s David Sharpe said: “The capacity inside the attraction is far more than we have at Tooley Street by about 200 people. So on the majority of days I very much doubt that you will see a queue outside.”

The Tooley Street site has hosted the Dungeon since the 1970s, but Merlin has agreed to vacate the building in December to allow Network Rail to rebuild the London Bridge transport interchange.
