A train on Blackpool Pleasure Beach’s Big Dipper rollercoaster came to a stop when the track centre fractured.
The incident, not yet officially acknowledged by the amusement park, occurred on Thursday afternoon.
Images posted online, and verified by RideRater, suggest that the 1923-designed ride failed to clear a hill, rolled back and stalled.
Footage on social media suggests part of the train has subsided beneath the other. There have been no reports of injuries.
The wooden rollercoaster was rebuilt in 1934, but contains virtually none of its original timber after being continually renewed in sections, an approach part of standard maintenance for such rides.
The ride was closed for three days between Monday and Wednesday this week, for what the Pleasure Beach described as “planned maintenance”.
