Theme parks prepare for UK heatwave

Nemesis, Alton Towers

Theme parks across the UK are preparing for a heatwave which could see temperatures reach 40°C (104°F).

A number of school trips planned to take place in the final week of term time have been cancelled by organisers.

Heat levels are expected to peak over Monday and Tuesday next week, but no major UK theme park has announced it intends to close.

Alton Towers said that it was planning to open as normal, but that its monorail and Sky Ride cable car would both be closed due to weather warnings in place by the Met Office.

That decision is likely to be based on risk assessment, as guests using those attractions are both enclosed subjected to considerable waiting times for evacuation in the event of a breakdown.
