A 20-year-old woman’s condition has improved after she was was critically injured in a fairground ride accident at the Fudstock festival.
Barrow-upon-Furness’s Cavendish Park was the scene of the incident, which is now understood to have involved a Twist-style ride, a model also known as a Sizzler.
Cumbria Police earlier today said that the injured woman was in a “serious but stable” condition in Royal Preston Hospital.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) have secured the ride and its immediate area and are conducting a joint investigation with police.
Two people, a 20-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, were also seriously injured and hospitalised, but have since been released.
The two 20-year-olds were reportedly on the ride, with the 51-year-old being injured as a bystander.
The incident occurred at about 20:30 on Saturday and the festival was subsequently ended early and cleared of visitors.
The HSE will likely take over the investigation full-time in the coming days, a process which typically takes several months to complete.
