Merlin Entertainments has cancelled the monthly direct debit version of its annual pass, the short-lived Merlin Membership scheme.
Launched in the summer of 2013, the scheme was withdrawn to new customers in February the following year for unspecified reasons.
Those that signed up have continued to have access to the scheme, which Merlin had repeatedly said would be offered again to new customers in due course.
However, in recent days Merlin has written to customers stating that the final payment will be taken this month.
The letters added that they could continue to access Merlin attractions free of charge until September.
Merlin Membership holders would be able to purchase a Merlin Annual Pass at a discounted price – currently seen in a promotional sale – up to 30 November this year.
Merlin said it was a “very tough” decision to cancel the scheme, but that it would be seeking a new system to provide a “world class” replacement in the future.
