Scenic Railway damaged by high winds

UploadDreamland Margate’s Scenic Railway rollercoaster was damaged by high winds during the early hours of yesterday morning.

According to the Kent Online website, the wooden ride – which is currently under restoration – was “brought down” at around 4am.

Local business owner Jason Evans took photographs and spoke to the website about the incident.

He said: “I arrived at 7am and, though it was still dark, I noticed the skyline was different.

“Something was missing. When it got lighter I realised the extent of the damage. I’d say they’d rebuilt about half of the structure, and two thirds of that has come down.

“They’d built one of the corners and part of the dipper, and that’s gone.”

A spokeswoman for the local council said that the setback would not affect the ride’s opening date next year.
