The owner of St Neots funfair – the site of a flat ride accident on Friday night – has said he is “devastated” by the incident.
A travelling variant of the Round Up spinning ride named X Scream collapsed, injuring 11 people and hospitalising one.
Speaking to the Hunts Post newspaper, Charles Muggeridge said that it was the first major accident at his Cambridgeshire fairground for 30 years.
“We are devastated that this has occurred – it happens very infrequently,” he said.
“We have been running this fair in St Neots for 30 years and nothing like this has ever happened.
“The ride was subcontracted in and all the details were in order – it’s now completely out of our hands.”
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has impounded the ride as it begins an investigation which is expected to last many months.
