A series of speed bumps is being installed in Alton village, in an attempt to calm theme park traffic from Alton Towers.
The £40,000 scheme is being funded by Staffordshire County Council.
More than 900 vehicles per hour can pass through the village during peak times.
Residents have complained about speeding traffic for a number of years and called on Alton Towers to fund the construction of a £12 million bypass in 2008, but the park rejected the idea.
It told Alton Parish Council there was no need for a relief road for village traffic problems which only lasted six weeks of the summer school holidays each year.
The park’s £6 daily car parking charge is thought to generate in excess of £3 million per year.
