2012 British theme park season ends

Major theme parks in the UK have now closed for winter after a difficult season of trading.

A two-day firework display marked Lightwater Valley’s final weekend, while Blackpool Pleasure Beach finished its last day of full operation in a ‘Final Fling’ event where wristbands were 2 for 1.

The four major theme parks operated by Merlin Entertainments closed for the winter last weekend, with many others ending their season then or the week before.

Poor weather has been blamed on a significant decline in visitor numbers to all of the UK’s parks, with Camelot announcing that it will not reopen in 2013 following tough year.

The Merlin parks implemented a number of operational cuts in an attempt to stabilise income, including reduced opening hours and the closure of food and retail outlets.
