Merlin Entertainments and Pleasure Beach Resort have joined forces to help boost tourism in Blackpool under a council-led scheme.
Blackpool Council has set up a new company – Marketing Blackpool – which features directors from Merlin and Pleasure Beach, among other private sector figures.
A spokeswoman for the new company said: “By maximising the involvement of the private sector, we can work in a more commercial way and deliver more for Blackpool.
“As a public sector body, which we were under the previous guise visitBlackpool, it is very difficult to leverage funding.”
Marketing Blackpool’s aim will be to boost tourism in the resort by promoting events events, provide visitor information and increase business usage of the town.
Council leader Simon Blackburn said: “I firmly believe that companies such as Merlin and the Pleasure Beach are experts in marketing and we should be using this expertise.”
