Grand National, Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has recorded post-tax losses of almost £2.8 million, more than treble that of the previous year.

The company’s accounts to the year ending 24 March 2024 report losses of £2,766,406, compared with about £789,714 in the previous 12 months.

Meanwhile, the wider Pleasure Beach Holdings company, which includes the park’s hotels and other ventures of the Thompson family, reported a £1.7 million loss.

The holdings company made a profit of £300,000 the previous year.

Attendance at the Lancashire amusement park increased by 2% on the previous year, but remain “depressed” compared with pre-COVID-19 levels, the park said.

‘Additional stress’

The Pleasure Beach added that interest rates, inflation, and rises in the National Living Wage had all put “additional stress” on its cost lines.

Interest rates reportedly increased the park’s annual borrowing costs by £400,000.

Occupation of the park’s adjacent hotels was 4% down on the previous period, and remained below pre-pandemic levels.

Meanwhile, the Pleasure Beach has confirmed that a 138-foot model Intamin Gyro Swing flat ride is coming to the park in 2026.

Currently dubbed Project MMXXVI, the ride is expected to be located on the site of the Bowl-A-Drome arcade, whose demolition is underway.
