Alton Towers has been given planning permission for what is expected to be a Top Spin flat ride.
Planning documents submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council suggest that it will be a suspended version of the model.
The Top Spin is a ride model introduced by German manufacturer Huss in the early 1990s.
The new ride’s arrival comes more than nine years after the former Top Spin, Ripsaw, was removed from the Forbidden Valley area.
The new ride will be located on virtually the same plot as Ripsaw.
2024 opening possible
A noise assessment makes comparisons to a previous assessment of a Top Spin ride at a theme park operated by Merlin Entertainments.
The new ride currently has a codename of Project Ocean. Alton Towers has not publicly commented.
The 15-week construction timeframe quoted in the planning documents indicate that the ride could open later this season.
If realised, it would be a departure from Alton Towers’ typical approach to ride openings, as it tends to prefer the start of the season.
