Universal has written to local residents in the area of a possible new theme park south of Bedford.
The Comcast-owned American company this week confirmed that it was reviewing the potential for a new park on recently-purchased land.
In its letter, Universal Destinations & Experiences said it was in the “very early stages of exploring the possibility of a potential park and resort experience” on the site.
“While we do own the land, we are only at the beginning of our feasibility study as part of our
evaluation of potential sites.
“It may well therefore be many months before we decide whether to proceed with the project.”
‘Long way to go’
Universal added that it was encouraged by the “positive nature” of conversations it so far had with local and national stakeholders.
“There is still a long way to go, and we may not have any more information to share in the near term,” the letter added.
Comcast registered the domain names UniversalStudiosGreatBritain.com and UniversalGreatBritain.com in September this year.
This week, a new website, UniversalUKProject.co.uk was launched to provide updates.
Theme park designer Jim Shull, who spent more than 30 years with Disney, said the evidence suggests the project will go forward.
“Universal has purchased the land without the approval for the resort being contingent on approval, which suggests that the project will go forward,” he posted on X on Wednesday.
