Overnight thunderstorms in Staffordshire have caused Alton Towers’ water supply to be cut off.
The park advised guests not to travel to the resort on Wednesday and said it would issue a free return visit to those already on site.
A statement posted at midday read: “Due to strong electrical storm activity overnight, our water supply has ben interrupted.
“Please do not travel to the resort. We will re-validate any guests who have booked a ticket for today and had their visit interrupted.”
Alton Towers said it was in the process of gradually closing down the theme park, as a number of guests had already entered before the problem emerged.
On Wednesday afternoon, the park said the issue had been resolved and that it would open as normal on Thursday.
