Alton Towers: Sub-Terra building back for Scarefest

Nemesis Sub-Terra, Alton Towers

Alton Towers will bring the Nemesis Sub-Terra ride’s building back into use as a new scare maze at this year’s Scarefest Halloween event.

Entitled Project 42, the paid-for addition will open during the park’s extended opening hours on 6, 7, 13 and 14 October, and consecutively between 19 October and 2 November this year.

The original ride, which featured four enclosed drop towers, opened in 2012 but closed suddenly in August 2015. It is not known if the original drop rides will feature as part of Project 42.

Loosely based around the alien backstory of the original Nemesis rollercoaster, Nemesis Sub-Terra received mixed reviews at its opening before an extended ending featuring several live actors was added to the experience.

The actors were gradually reduced in number and eventually removed entirely in the following years, before the ride was completely closed as part of budget-reduction measures.

In a similar Scarefest format to recent years, Alton Towers is offering admission to three scare mazes as a £20 bolt-on to theme park admission, with the Sub Species and Altonville Mine Tours mazes making up the rest of the package.
