£100,000 traffic payment sought from Alton Towers

Planners reviewing Alton Towers’ 2013 rollercoaster application have recommended that permission only be granted in exchange for a £100,000 payment for road improvements.

The ride, currently dubbed Secret Weapon Seven (SW7), is predicted to add an average of 234 vehicles travelling to the theme park per day.

It is not clear what the requested money would be used for at this stage.

A decision on the rollercoaster’s planning application will be made by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council’s planning committee on Thursday.

Built by German manufacturer Gerstlauer on the site of the former Black Hole ride, SW7 is scheduled to open in March next year.
