Lightwater Valley

Lightwater Valley theme park was recently offered for sale at a guide price of £3 million, RideRater has learned.

Originally Newmark by real estate agents, the listing has since been withdrawn. It is unclear if the North Yorkshire park has been sold, or its sale pulled.

The park is continuing operations, and is expected to begin Halloween-themed openings on Saturday as planned.

Lightwater Valley was offered at a 99-year lease, and claimed to have 230,000 annual visitors and £5 million of annual revenue.

The sale, offered earlier this year, was described as an opportunity to “take ownership” of the park.

Newmark have been approached for comment.

Transition to young-child park

Lightwater has transitioned to a young-child model following a £5 million takeover by the Brighton Pier Group (BPG) in June 2021.

The vast majority of thrill rides have since been removed, including the controversial scrapping of the Ultimate rollercoaster.

BPG was taken private in May this year after it attributed £300,000 of costs associated with being on the public AIM stock market.

The company described its presence on AIM as producing “considerable cost”, “management time”, and a “legal and regulatory burden”.

BPG’s share price collapsed in the spring, but it has made no specific comment about the future of Lightwater Valley.
