Wipeout, Pleasurewood Hills

Pleasurewood Hills has been sold to UK operator Premier Attractions.

Operated by France’s Looping Group since 2011, the Suffolk theme park opened in 1983.

“We’re delighted to announce that Pleasurewood Hills has officially been acquired by Premier Attractions Ltd,” the park said.

“This marks the start of an exciting new chapter for the park, and we can’t wait to share our vision and future plans with you.”

The park said it would be revealing more details on its future direction in due course.

Manchester-based Premier Attractions was founded in 2017 by the Stokes family, who operate travelling rides in the UK and overseas.

Pleasurewood Hills sustained post-tax losses of almost £340,000, its latest accounts showed when published in February.

History of changes

The park has a history of ownership changes and financial troubles, but it achieved considerable exposure in the 1990s with a deal which saw Noel Edmonds’ Crinkley Bottom show arrive at the park.

It was founded in 1983 by local entrepreneur Joe Larter as a small American-themed family park near Lowestoft.

In the late 1980s, the park was sold to RKF, a property developer that expanded the brand, but went bankrupt in 1991.

Ownership later passed through Leisure Great Britain and then to Peter and Peggy Hadden, who renamed it New Pleasurewood Hills.

In 2004, French leisure group Grévin & Cie acquired the park, investing £3 million including the Vekoma Boomerang rollercoaster Missile from the American Adventure – today’s Wipeout ride.

Looping Group remain owners of Drayton Manor theme park in Tamworth.
