When Theme Parks Go Horribly Wrong is a one-off Channel 5 documentary which aired on Sunday evening.
This near-two-hour trek through some of the most well-known theme park disasters begins at Disneyland in California.
Last year, a dragon figure burst into flames during one of the parades there, but no one was injured.
The programme is predictably sensationalised, but also stoops to low levels with repeated footage of people being ejected from rides.
Before cutting to the first advert break – just a few minutes in – a preview of the Smiler incident‘s coverage features over-dramatic use of Alton Towers theme tune.
Scripted reactions
The producers somehow felt it necessary to show the moment the two trains collided, which saw five people seriously injured.
Cue scripted reactions and gasps of shock from invited commentators, although more serious reaction does follow.
Later, comical Looney Tunes-like sound effects accompany footage of a cracked rollercoaster support.
Footage of a chair swing ride collapsing is then replayed three times, reminiscent of a goal in a televised football match.
A little more entertaining is a stalled train which is rescue by a cherry picker and a man using a large stick.
Overall, When Theme Parks Go Horribly Wrong is a somewhat tacky package of already-told stories, accompanied by analysts that often appear too keen for their camera time.
Channel 5 has never had a good reputation when it comes to documentaries, and this programme is unlikely to change that.
