Thorpe Park has revealed that the Rumba Rapids water ride will be closed from 9 September.
Listed on the attractions ‘temporary closures‘ page, the length of closure is not stated, only given as “closed from 9 September”.
Closure for the remainder of the season based on cost savings is a possibility, but Thorpe Park has not commented.
Due to the levels of staff and water pumping required, rapids rides are relatively expensive to operate.
The 1987-built Intamin-manufactured ride is one of the oldest rides at Thorpe Park.
As with most rapids-style rides in the UK, operational procedures have been changed to align with regulatory guidance issued in recent years.
Currently an adult must be in each group riding Rumba Rapids.
