Alton Towers has submitted a planning application suggestive of a new flat ride in the Forbidden Valley area.
In documents submitted to Staffordshire Moorlands District Council, the theme park said the former Funk n Fly ride is being replaced.
The new attraction is expected to be up to 18 metres (59 feet) tall, and will be mounted above a pedestrian walkway.
Alton Towers has not revealed the design of the new ride, referring to it simply as an ‘attraction’.
Guests will be able to walk under the ride, which will sit to the south of the Coffee Lounge building.
There has been considerable speculation online that the new ride will be a variant of the Top Spin model from German manufacturer Huss.
The former Ripsaw ride – which occupied the same position until 2015 – was itself a Top Spin model.
