Major UK theme parks will close on Monday, 19 September to mark the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II.
The country’s longest-reigning monarch died on Thursday, aged 96. The date of her state funeral has now been confirmed as a bank holiday.
Merlin Entertainments announced today that it would close all of its UK attractions, which include Alton Towers, Thorpe Park, Chessington World of Adventures and Legoland Windsor.
Merlin said it was closing its attractions to “allow [its] guests and employees to pay their respects” before reopening as normal on Tuesday.
Drayton Manor will also close, saying that it will be allowing guests and staff to “reflect and pay tribute”.
Blackpool Pleasure Beach said that it would remain open during the 10-day period of national mourning but is scheduled to be closed on 19 September in any case.
