Croc Drop: Chessington ride name approved

Croc Drop, Chessington World of Adventures

Chessington World of Adventures has secured approval for the naming of its forthcoming drop tower ride Croc Drop.

An opposition from American footwear manufacturer Crocs was not upheld by the UK Intellectual Property Office.

Chessington operator Merlin Entertainments had its trademark registered for the 25-metre (82-foot) ride on Friday.

An accompanying trademark application for the ride’s logo remains under review.

The new 16-seat drop ride will feature 12-metre (40-foot) high crocodile head theming, with riders falling into the figure’s open mouth.

Waterfall features will be positioned around the ride’s entrance, while the previous Ancient Egypt-style theme will be retained as part of the Forbidden Kingdom area of the park.

With the approval of the name finally received, Chessington is expected to soon begin a marketing campaign for the ride, which will open next year.
