Merlin sued by Universal over US attraction name

Merlin Entertainments are facing legal action over the name of a planned development in the United States.

Universal Orlando Resort claim that the name I-Walk too closely impacts on the title of their CityWalk entertainment district, located three miles away.

I-Walk is the name of a planned entertainment complex which will feature a Madame Tussauds waxwork museum and ‘Orlando Eye’ ferris wheel.

In its lawsuit filed last week, Universal asks the court to stop Merlin and the project’s developers Unicorp USA LLC and Circle Entertainment Inc. from using the name I-Walk.

The lawsuit claims that I-Walk violates its trademark and is “likely to cause confusion, to cause mistake, or to deceive consumers as to the affiliation, connection or association of those services with Universal.”

Universal also seek legal fees and damages, where applicable.
