Aviktas, Blackpool Pleasure Beach

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has confirmed that its new flat ride Aviktas will open on 21 May this year.

In a media event held on Thursday, the Lancashire amusement park confirmed the opening date for the £9 million ride.

It is the largest, 42-metre (138-foot), variation of Intamin’s Gyro Swing ride, and will be one of the most expensive flat rides ever built in the UK.

A VIP preview event will be held prior to the ride’s public opening, offered by the Pleasure Beach at the cost of £50 per person.

Meanwhile, Aviktas is now in full testing with water dummies, and is not known to have yet carried human riders.

Amanda Thompson, chief executive of Blackpool Pleasure Beach, said last month: “Seeing Aviktas swing for the first time was a truly special moment for everyone involved in this project.

“Each milestone brings us closer to that first ride and we can’t wait to share this experience with our guests in the spring.”
