Hyperia, Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park’s troubled Hyperia rollercoaster has been closed again after it stalled in morning testing.

No one was on board the Mack Rides-built rollercoaster when it stalled before the park opened.

Shortly after 10:00 – Thorpe Park’s opening time – the Surrey attraction said it is unable to open Hyperia on Wednesday.

It cited “unforeseen circumstances”, and advised the BBC that it would be revealing any further details.

The ride opened to the public on 24 May, before the next day closing until 12 June due to issues with its lift hill.

This morning’s stall follows sightings of the trains traversing certain track elements at very low speeds.

‘Valleying’

Today, a train failed to clear the outer-banked turn, in what is sometimes known as “valleying”.

The official line is that the ride is “currently unavailable”, with no expected opening date given.

The issue of train under-speed could require major modification to the ride to resolve in a permanently sustainable way.

“Hyperia is simply experiencing some teething issues,” Thorpe Park told guests on X.

“This is a common occurrence with any new ride as it finds its feet. We are working hard to re-open the ride as soon as possible.”

The park added that it was “not necessary” to give specific details, with no acknowledgement of the stall given.
