The Smokehouse BBQ restaurant at Chessington World of Adventures was given a ‘zero’ food hygiene rating last year, it has emerged.
Operated by the Aramark contractors, the 14 December inspection determined that “major improvement” was necessary in two areas.
The zero rating is the lowest on a scale of 0 to 5, and attracts a summary of ‘urgent improvement necessary’.
The two areas deemed most lacking during the Smokehouse’s inspection were ‘hygienic food handling’ and ‘management of food safety’.
Improvement was also reported as being needed in the ‘cleanliness and condition’ of the “facilities and building”.
Chessington operator Merlin Entertainments awarded food and beverage service contracts to Aramark across its five major UK attractions in 2022.
Aramark has been approached for comment.
