Planning permission has been granted for the construction of a 53-metre observation tower in the coastal town of Weymouth.
Merlin Entertainments were given unaminous approval by the local council to construct the Weymouth Eye structure.
The company are hoping to have construction complete in time for the 2012 Olympic Games – during which Weymouth will host sailing events.
Under the proposed timescale, the tower would be erected in March 2012, with testing taking place in June and the public opening coming in July, shortly before the start of the summer games.
