Chinese theme park planned for South Yorkshire

If approved, the park could open in 2013

A £100 million theme park based on traditional Chinese culture is being planned for construction in South Yorkshire.

Visions of China would reportedly feature rollercoasters and theming such as Oriental-style water features and buildings. A China Town shopping street is also part of the 120-acre site’s concept.

A consortium of Chinese and  British businessmen has been granted a lease by Rotherham Council, with a planning application due to be submitted later this year.

Peter Moore, former marketing director at Alton Towers, and now the consortium’s chief executive, said: “I believe it will be, no doubt, one of the most exciting projects British tourism will have seen for decades.”

Construction would take an estimated 18-24 months, and the park could create some 380 jobs.
