KMG flat ride models closed following US death

KMG Afterburner

Dutch ride manufacturer KMG has ordered the closure of two of its flat ride models following a fatal accident in the United States.

One person was killed and several injured when a seating arm on a Afterburner-type ride fractured at Ohio State Fair last week.

KMG issued a statement instructing operators of the Afterburner/Fireball and Move It model rides to “cease operation until further notice”.

The Afterburner is a relatively common feature in the UK amusement and theme park scene.

Thorpe Park is understood to have reopened its Afterburner – Vortex – following a period of closure in the accident’s aftermath.

The cause of the Ohio ride’s mechanical failure on Wednesday is not yet understood.

KMG expressed its “deepest sympathies” for the accident, and said it was gathering information as part of an investigation into the failure.
