Drayton Manor remains closed on Thursday

Drayton Manor will stay closed for a second day on Thursday, while the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigates the death of an 11-year-old girl.

Evha Jannath fell from the Splash Canyon rapids ride on Tuesday afternoon, dying shortly after being airlifted to hospital.

A statement released by the Tamworth theme park tonight said: “The tragic events on Tuesday have shaken the whole Drayton Manor family from the Board, through to staff and visitors.

“We would like to extend our thanks to the emergency services for everything they did yesterday.

“The park will be closed on Thursday, to allow the Health and Safety Executive to complete their work.

“Our thoughts are with the family and all those who have been affected by Tuesday’s incident.”

Merlin Entertainments has taken the decision to close similar rapids rides at Alton Towers and Thorpe Park as a precaution until the HSE completes its early investigative work.
