The Smiler rollercoaster this morning stalled during testing, and has led to the cordoning off of the X Sector part of Alton Towers.
A crane is typically required to return a stalled train to the ride’s station, as photographs revealed last week.
A fourth train was this morning added to The Smiler following 180-minute queues yesterday, when the ride operated with three trains.
In compensation, Alton Towers has extended today’s ride openings elsewhere to 6pm this evening and is offering free return tickets at guest services.
