Madame Tussauds removes Ken Barlow figure

Ken Barlow waxworkMadame Tussauds Blackpool has removed its waxwork of Coronation Street character Ken Barlow, following allegations of abuse by actor William Roache.

The character’s profile page on the attraction’s website has also been removed, as well as part of the front facade on Blackpool promenade, which featured an image of Roache.

The 81-year-old was charged with two counts of rape earlier this May and will appear in court on 14 May. He denies the charges.

A spokesperson for Madame Tussauds Blackpool said: “We never comment or moralise on their character or specific activities.

“That said, they also ‘earn’ their place through visitor demand and if our visitors told us that they were no longer happy to see them there then we would certainly consider the implications of this.”
