Heavy snowfall has led to Alton Towers cancelling this weekend’s operations and remaining closed on Saturday and Sunday.
The park took the decision to close on Friday on the grounds of guest safety, with snowfall since continuing.
A statement on Twitter said: “We hope to open as soon as possible. We will keep you updated with any changes to future days. Your safety is paramount.”
The resort said that its hotels, water park and spa remain open as normal.
The rural Staffordshire Moorlands roads that surround the park have become impassable in many areas.
A council spokesperson was quoted by the BBC as saying: “If you don’t have to go out today please stay at home because it is just making things worse for us.”
The nearby Drayton Manor theme park also took the decision not to open on Saturday, while Lightwater Valley in North Yorkshire has also remained closed.
