The mysterious central theming feature of Alton Towers’ 2013 rollercoaster has been revealed to be a 15-metre, six-legged object.
Opening in 2012, the ride’s track will pass underneath the structure – which will feature LED monitors on a central core or globe – three times in total.
The codenamed Secret Weapon Seven (SW7) rollercoaster will open at Alton Towers in March 2013, following a £20 million construction programme, according to operators Merlin Entertainments.
Constructed by German manufacturers Gerstlauer, it will be situated in the X Sector area of the Staffordshire theme park, adjacent to the Oblivion ride.
Planning documents, which were recently updated to illustrate the new theming elements, were submitted to the local council in December last year.
